National Library Week is celebrated April 6-12. Today’s library is so different from when it began. Our libraries now are offering books, digital resources, creative programming, and much more. Take the time to share in all that the Huron County Community Library has to offer at all four of its library locations, Greenwich, North Fairfield, Wakeman and Willard.
Between 1969 and 1972, twenty one American astronauts left earth’s orbit and voyaged to the moon as part of NASA’s Apollo program. Twelve of these men walked on the lunar surface. Join us at our Willard Memorial Library location community room on April 10 at 6 p.m. as we welcome Chief Curator, Eric Rivet, from the Western Reserve Historical Society to learn about the triumphs and tragedies of the Apollo Program.
The Senior Hour is presented by “Laurels of New London”. On Friday, April 25 at 11 a.m. in the Willard Library community room, join Jackie Barlett (SW-Mercy Hospital) for a look at “Advanced Directives” and what they mean for you and your family.
Renee Hogue with Integrated Therapeutic Healing will be here on April 22 at 6 p.m. in the Willard Memorial Library community room to provide information about the anatomy of the pelvic floor. This information is great for those that are perimenopausal or have experienced menopause.
“Monday Reads” meets the second Monday of every month at 10 a.m. in the Willard library community room. On April 14 the group will be discussing the book “Weyward” by Emilia Hart.
On the last Thursday of every month join Willard Library’s evening book discussion. They will meet on April 24 at 6 p.m. to share their thoughts on “Kitchen Front” by Jennifer Ryan.
“Cook Up a Storm Cookbook Club” will get together on Thursday, April 3 at 6 p.m. in the Willard Library annex. They will Share recipes they have made from the cookbook, “Fix It and Forget It Slow Cooker Dump Dinners and Desserts” by Hope Comerford.
Do you love to write? Join Willard Library’s “Writers’ Group”. In April, the group will get together on Thursday, April 17 at 5 p.m. in the community room.
“Tech Thursdays with Jarrad” is held every Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m. Just drop in the Willard Computer Lab with your computer questions.
“Crochet Corner” is scheduled for Friday, April 11 and Friday, April 25 at 11 a.m. Learn how to crochet with Terry in the Willard Library’s community room. In the months of April and May, come and learn how to make spring bunnies.
Pinterest Monday will be held on April 21 at 6 p.m. Sign up is required to make a cute rug using fabric and weaving. This small rug is perfect for under a plant or pet dish.
Join the library at the Willard Enrichment Center of Thursday, April 10 at 10 a.m. If you have ever wanted to try overnight oats, now is the time. Come for overnight oats tasting and create your own to take home with you.
“Manga Club” is available at the Willard Memorial Library location. Tweens and Teens are invited to join Courtney twice a month for a discussion on a Manga themed book. Besides discussing the book, have fun with Manga themed activities or crafts. Copies of the book for each session will be available in the Teen Room. Join us on Monday, April 14 and Monday, April 28 at 6 p.m. The series being read and discussed is “Spy X Family”.
Teens (grades 6 and up) join us in the Willard Library Teen Room for “Teen Time”. On Thursday,
April 10 at 6 p.m. come and create with “Hydro-Dipping”. Come and use nail polish to hydro-dip some wooden cubes and eggs. On Thursday, April 24 at 6 p.m. Take part in “Jellyfish Painting”. Try some fluid painting with string and hot glue to create a jellyfish.
Bring your little ones to the Willard Memorial Library location on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. or Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. for “Read to Me Storytime” with Miss Mitzi. Join us for stories, crafts, songs and more. The theme for April 2 and 3 is “April Showers Bring May Flowers”, for April 9 and 10 the theme is “B is for Books”, for April 16 and 17 the theme is “Cheep, Cheep Chicks”, and for April 23 and 24 the theme is “What’s in the Garden?”
Lego fans! Plan to come to “Brick Bunch” on Tuesday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m. in the Willard Library community room. There will be a feature challenge for you.
Our kids, grades K-5, will be having lots of fun in our Youth Department during the month of April. The Huron County Community Library in Willard is joining the WBA for their annual Egg Hunt. The hunt is planned for Saturday, April 12 at 11:30 a.m. at the Willard Soccer Field. Come see us there for a fun Easter Craft.
All ages are invited to come and try out our mini golf course. We are creating a mini golf course in the Willard Memorial Library community room using books and more. Come and play mini golf April 17 through April 19 all day and show us your best shot.
Come see us, kids, in the Willard Library community room on Thursday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m. and learn how jellybeans are made. Join us for a fun science activity and see if you can ID all the flavorful jellybeans.
Be sure to come to the Willard City Park on April 26 from 10 a.m. to noon for the Grand Opening and ribbon cutting of the new “Storybook Trail”. With generous donations from the community, the Friends of the Library, the VFW Post 3430, and the city of Willard, we were able to purchase and set up a “Storybook Trail for the Community. We will have free activities and Lowe-Volk Nature Center will be there at 10:30 a.m. The Dog Park ribbon cutting will also be held during this event.
Spring is coming and so are the nutritional and medicinal herbs called spring tonics. Our Wakeman Library location invites you to join us as we welcome Mary Colvin RH (AHG), author, clinical herbalist, and owner of Ancestral Herbology. On Tuesday, April 29 at 6 p.m. she will be describing each of those herbs, how to forage/harvest them, and how she works with them in the kitchen and in the apothecary.
Come to our Wakeman Library on Monday, April 14 at 6 p.m. and join our guest artist from FAVA (Firelands Association of Visual Arts) for a guided acrylic painting class. This class will be open to adults and is sure to be a fun and relaxing session that will lead you through different techniques to create your own unique painting. No experience is needed – just bring your own creativity.
Come to the Wakeman Library on Monday, April 28 at 5:30 p.m. for “Pinterest Monday”. We will be making a cute rug with fabric and weaving. This small rug will be perfect under a plant or pet dish. The Senior Hour is scheduled with Laurels of New London at the Wakeman Library on Tuesday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Canfield from Fisher-Titus Medical Center will be here to talk about health.
Kids! Drop in at the Wakeman Library on Thursdays any time between 3:30 and 6 p.m. for activities, crafts, and more. Each week features something new. Join us April 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31.
There are plenty of toys and fun activities on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 – noon at the Wakeman Library. Bring the kids to “Pop-in and Play” April 2, 9, 10, 23, and 30.
“Storytime” is held on Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. at the Wakeman Library. Join Cathy for stories, activities, and more on April 4, 11, 18, and 25.
“Who Picked This Book?” Wakeman’s Book Club will meet on Tuesday, April 21 at 5:30 p.m. They will be discussing the book, “Radium Girls” by Kate Moore.
“Food for Thought Cookbook Club” will get together the Wakeman Library on Monday, April 7 at 6 p.m. They will be using the book “Betty Crocker Lost Recipes” by Betty Crocker. Drop by the circulation desk at Wakeman to pick up a copy. Pick out a recipe and make it to share.
Homeschool families and kids are invited to join us at the Wakeman Library for a special Kids’ cookbook club. Check out a copy of our monthly selection and make your favorite recipe at home and bring it in for discussion and everyone to share. “Look What I Cooked-Kids Cookbook Club” will meet on Tuesday, April 1 at 12 p.m. and share a recipe from “Budget-Friendly Cookbook” by Taste of Home.
“Wednesday Afternoons” is held every Wednesday between 3-5 p.m. Come join us at our Greenwich Library location for an afternoon of fun. On April 2 come and enjoy our collection of games, on April 9 have fun making a shiny Easter egg out of yarn, foil, cardboard, and markers, on April 16 create a birds nest and drop an egg inside, on April 23 we will be using shaving cream and coloring to make a rainy picture, and on April 30 kids can explore their creativity with magnetic painting.
Kids of all ages are welcome to the Greenwich Library for “Storytime” on Fridays at 11 a.m. Chris will have stories, songs, crafts, games, and more on April 11, 18, and 25.
The Greenwich Library Homeschool Group will get together on April 3 at 11 a.m. We will be studying artists and their art.
Pinterest Monday is scheduled for Monday, April 7 at 5:30 p.m. Sign-up is required to create with “Rag Rug Weaving”. Come make a cute small rug with fabric and weaving. This small rug can be used under a plant or pet dish.
Enjoy free fun and learning during the “Senior Hour” presented by Laurels of New London. On Tuesday April 1 at 11 a.m. at the Greenwich Library, a guest speaker, Mackenzie Buck, RN from Senior Life Solutions, will give a message to “Stay Mentally Healthy”.
On Wednesday, April 16 at 1 p.m. at the Greenwich Library, join the staff of Integrated Therapeutic Healing from Norwalk. They will help you improve balance and reduce the risk for falls.

Come to our North Fairfield Library location on Monday, April 14 at 1 p.m. to hear New London resident, Emily Brannon, tell of her experiences while hiking the Appalachian Trail by herself.
“What is Hospice?” will be presented at the North Fairfield Library by Hospice Coordinator, Bart McKelvey. Join us on Monday, April 28 at 5 p.m. Come and get answers to your Hospice questions.
Improve your balance and reduce your risk for falls with the help of staff from Integrated Therapeutic Healing, at the North Fairfield Library on Monday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
Join “PT Patty” of Integrated Therapeutic Healing on Tuesday, April 22 at 11 a.m. She will lead us in “Chair Yoga”.
“Make and Play” is held at the North Fairfield Library on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. Join us on April 8 for “Feed the Birds” and on April 22 for games.
“Pinterest Craft Day” will be held on Friday, April 4 at 1 p.m. If you ever wondered about overnight oats, here is your chance to try them. There will be overnight oats tasting and you will get to create your own to take home. You will also be decorating a little jar to take it home in.
