THE PRESIDENT'S LAWYER

A Washington, DC, lawyer is engaged to represent his childhood friend, a former president of the United States, against a murder charge. The victim? A woman both of the men have an intimate history with. Jack, the former president, vehemently denies committing the murder, but has secrets he'd like to keep out of the public eye and the history books. Rob, the attorney, has issues of his own, but knows successfully defending his friend would be a major coup for his career. And maybe, for once, he could be the "Golden Boy" instead of his famous friend. Rob thinks he has an answer for everything the prosecution throws at him, but will he be able to convince everyone on the jury beyond a reasonable doubt when he finds himself questioning what really happened? I love a good courtroom drama and this one had its moments even though I was a little slow to warm up to it. I don't think the court would let a defense attorney try a case when he had that kind of history with both the defendant and the victim, but what do I know? There is an interesting little twist at the end that you can sometimes see sneaking up on you, but then Robbins deflects you away. Robbins, a highly acclaimed litigator, quite possibly could have had a successful second career as a writer but, sadly, he passed away near the end of 2024, leaving his debut also his finale.
