Law students, Will and Natalie, on their first date, somewhat jokingly have the discussion that they believe they would be smart enough to get away with murder, if they wanted to. Seventeen years later, now married, Nat is a defense attorney and Will specializes in real estate law. They have an 11-year-old son, Charlie. When something happens that threatens the well-being of Charlie, Nat is not about to leave matters in the hands of what she knows to be a damaged, uncertain justice system. When things don't go exactly as planned, Nat is forced to bring Will in on her scheme. As the two wait to see where the axe will fall, the tension puts a strain on their already troubled marriage. Were they clever enough? What will happen to their family however things play out? This was a very good book. I raced through it, anxious to see what happened next. While Will and Nat are not particularly likeable, you could empathize with everything they were going through and a couple twists at the end brought it all to a surprising, satisfying ending.
