The small town of Merinac, Kansas, has two fried chicken joints that have been competing against each other for generations. Amanda, with connections to both places, contacts Food Wars, a reality TV show, thinking it will be good for both restaurants and their owners. But now her sister, Mae, who left Merinac for the big city years ago, has come home determined to revive her stalled career by getting involved in the competition, even if it means driving a bigger wedge between her and Amanda. This is definitely "chick" lit. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's an engaging, lighthearted story with no big surprises or shocking twists. If you're looking for a pleasant read to while away the afternoon, you could do worse.
