An elite group of people settle in an exclusive, green community nestled in the wilderness surrounding Mt. Ranier. Upscale and high tech, this could hardly be considered roughing it. But everything changes when Mt. Ranier erupts, cutting them off from civilization and rendering their technology useless. Now they have to figure out how to survive until someone from the outside world comes looking for them. But someone has already found them; someone who was already there. I saw a lot of hype about this book before I decided to read it. Bigfoot? Really? But the idea grew on me and soon I was looking forward to it. However, I'm not as enthusiastic about it now. I still like the idea and even though I had never read Max Brooks before, he sounded like a likely person to do it. It seemed like it took a long time to get to the action and when we did, I'm not sure who I was rooting for. The people weren't very likable and I felt bad for the....Bigfoots? Bigfeet? They didn't understand what had happened to their world and were just trying to survive, like everybody else. It is an original idea and apparently a lot of people liked it. I just wasn't a big fan.
