Our ninth visit to Painters Mill finds former Amish chief of police Kate Burkholder struggling to reconcile the memories of the charming boy next door with the convicted murderer now holding her and his five children hostage. Joseph King just escaped from prison where he spent the last two years after being convicted of murdering his wife. He has always proclaimed his innocence but the jury decided the evidence said otherwise. Now he wants his childhood friend Kate to look into the case and find the truth. I love this series. Kate is so real and likeable. The action is nonstop and the pages fly by. Too fast. If only Castillo could write them as fast as I can read them.
