Two years of drought have pushed the residents of this small Australian farming community to the edge. Did it push one local farmer to kill himself and his family? Federal agent Aaron Falk, boyhood best friend of the deceased, returns home after 20 years to attend the funeral. Given Falk's history, not everyone is glad to see him back in town; especially when he starts working with the local police looking into his friend's death. It's surprising how many secrets there can be in a small town. I found this to be a thoroughly enjoyable read, even though I did figure out one of the major plot twists before it was revealed. If this was Harper's debut, I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
