A virus of undetermined origin is spreading the world and leaving death and mayhem in its wake.  Sound familiar?  In a feat of uncanny timing, this book was released right about the time Covid-19 started changing the way we all live; it's like Wright had a crystal ball.  The primary storyline follows Henry Parsons, a high-ranking official with the CDC, as he first encounters the new disease in Indonesia, unsuccessfully tries to contain it and finally struggles to make his way home to his family in Atlanta.  The story goes deeper, exploring both personal and political aspects as the world deals with a pandemic, the likes of which most of us never expected to face.  Wright's vision becomes ever more frightening and we have to remind ourselves that even with the similarities to our current state of affairs, this is still just a story; albeit one that will resonate with each and every one of us.  Even though it's not our Coronavirus, there are similarities and what would have read like science fiction less than a year ago, now feels like reading the news.
