British Emma has walked away from a high-paying job and a glamorous life in Manhattan to take up residence in Westport, Connecticut, where she hopes to find out what she really wants out of life.  She has rented a somewhat sad little cottage which once belonged to her landlord's grandparents.  He's quite sentimental about the cottage and has some doubts about the renovations Emma would like to tackle.  But as Emma gradually starts making the cottage her own, she becomes very close to Dominic, her landlord, and his six-year-old son.  As the relationship blossoms and her flair for decorating turns into a new career, things just couldn't be any better.  But when fate intervenes, Emma finds herself in a situation she never could have anticipated.  I have been reading Jane Green for years, but for me, this one lacked her usual spark.  I didn't find Emma particularly endearing and the story felt rather cliche'd and seemed to drag a bit until very near the end when you finally got to the "meat" of the story.  Even though I felt this wasn't Jane at her best, I still look forward to reading whatever she comes up with next.
