A village in Cornwall is the backdrop for this tale about a devoted mother and the chronically ill daughter she cares for.  The girl, Grace, is a teenager who needs 24/7 care for her myriad maladies and, according to her mum, Meg, she needs protection from her violent, unstable father.  When Meg is found dead in her bed and Grace is not found at all, the popular assumption is that it was Grace's father who killed Meg and kidnapped Grace, just as Meg had long feared he would.  But things are not always as they seem and as Grace's friend and neighbor, Cara, and a disgraced local journalist join the search for Grace, they find more questions than answers.  I just couldn't get into this book.  There were no characters I connected with or even liked.  While there was a somewhat disturbing edge to it, I wasn't surprised by any events and had to force myself to finish it.  I found it quite forgettable.  I even had to reread some of the last pages to remind myself how it ended since I had finished it a couple of weeks and a couple of books ago. There are better options out there.
