Two women in desperate situations stumble into each other when they both try to steal money from Frank Torelli, husband of Hadley, boss of Grace. Frank is an overbearing, abusive husband that Hadley wants to get away from. Frank is an overbearing, conniving boss that screwed Grace out of some money that should have been hers. The pair grudgingly join forces to try to improve their chances of escape, heading acoss the country with their kids in tow and Frank and the cops on their tail. I felt like this book started out really strong, but then the more I read, it just fell short of my expectations. At times, it felt "sitcom-ish" or like a Lifetime movie.(Sorry, fans of Lifetime movies.) There were outrageous situations mixed in with scenes where the characters suddenly realize how much they really love each other. There's nothing wrong with happy endings. I guess I was just hoping for something a little grittier.
