HEART OF JUNK

The Heart of America Antique Mall is facing hard times.  Everyone is hoping a visit from Mark and Grant, stars of the television show, "Pickin' Fortunes", will bring new life to the dying enterprise.  But when a local little girl goes missing, it threatens to derail everyone's plans for the future.  When I first noticed this unprepossessing book on our shelf, I couldn't remember having heard anything about it and even though I picked it up and looked at it, I didn't check it out.  Some time went by and getting my hands on new books has been hard to do thanks to Covid-19, so when I picked this one up a second time, I did take it home and I'm glad I did.  It's no Pulitzer prize winner, but it's unique and fun and a quick read.  The characters are just that - characters.  Over-the-top, eccentric, sitcom-like personas that grab your attention.  Especially if you do occasionally enjoy a walk through an antique mall in middle America.  It does get bogged down at times by the details of certain collections, like rare, hard-to-find vinyl, but this charming little tome is funny, sad, touching and does have its share of surprises.  Definitely worth the short time it will take you to read it.
