A viral video turned Deputy Eve Ronin into the youngest female homicide detective in department history. Now she has to prove she deserved it. A woman and her two children are missing. Their home looks like a massacre took place there, but there are no signs of their bodies. Eve must take on forces from inside the department as well as outside it while trying to learn the ropes of being a detective and solving the crime. Goldberg is a prolific author, but this is the first time I have read any of his work. I was very pleased with this. It was an excellent police procedural. The story moves along quickly, letting us know just enough about Eve without ever bogging down. I'd be interested in seeing her again.
