Jane, her husband, Leon, and their two small children are ready to head to Leon's mother's house for Leon's birthday celebration. Jane runs back inside to get something and when she comes back, Leon isn't acting right. He smashes the car into the garden wall and collapses on the steering wheel. In her brief absence, someone has brutally attacked her husband. As Leon fights for his life, the police try to determine who could have done this. When Leon finally comes home, Jane is stretched to the limits trying to care for a man who may never be the same and doing some investigating of her own when the police can't seem to come up with any answers. I was underwhelmed by this book. The reviews I had read were good and I waited a long time to get it, but I just didn't feel it. I didn't like the characters, the circumstances felt forced and unrealistic and I couldn't wait for it to be over so I could move on to something else.
