It was an ordinary day in the middle of an ordinary week. Federal judge Scott Sampson gets a text from his wife that she's going to pick the kids up from school, so Scott heads straight home after work. But when his wife gets there, she doesn't have the kids. She didn't send a text. So where are they? Then the phone rings and the nightmare begins. Someone wants the judge to rule a certain way in a certain case. Scott struggles to keep up appearances as he deals with his inner turmoil. Soon he's suspicious of everyone and doesn't even know if he can trust his wife anymore. This story started off with a bang, but then fizzled out a little as it got bogged down in politics and Big Pharma details. Ironically, the action did pick up again after the reveal but by then I was ready for it to be done. Parks appears to be a much lauded author so I would certainly be willing to give him another try.
