Seven teenagers go on a camping trip on a perfect July night in 1983. Only six of them go home. Aurora, the youngest, cannot be found and no trace of her shows up until 30 years later. DCI Jonah Sheens participated in the search those many years ago and now he's in charge of what has become a murder investigation. The remaining six campers, still a tight-knit group, are again called in for questioning. Even though they all have an alibi, it stands to reason that one of them is the killer. Lodge deftly switches from 1983 and that fateful night, to the present-day police procedural, which is quite engrossing. The team of detectives all seem quite competant and interesting. Sequels are promised so it will be exciting to watch them develop.
