In the quiet town of Aylesford, in upstate New York, a teenage boy has been breaking into his neighbors' homes. When his horrified mother finds out, she writes anonymous letters of apology, hoping the matter will be forgotten about. But one neighbor won't let it drop; she's talking to everyone. And then another neighbor, who everyone thought had left her husband, turns up dead. Now the police are investigating her murder and it seems that everyone in the neighborhood has something to hide. Peaceful little Aylesford turns out to be quite the little "Peyton Place". It seems like everyone's been doing something, or someone, they shouldn't be. This twisty tale is a fast, enjoyable read, but it's not too difficult to guess the outcome.
