Beat cop turned dispatcher, Laurie, answers a 911 call to hear her 16-year-old daughter, Jojo's terrified voice on the other end.  She doesn't know where she's at or how she got there.  When the police zero in on her location, she's found in the home of a pro football player who's recently been in the spotlight for his association with a group that's speaking out against police brutality.  Jojo was drugged and raped and there's a dead body in the bathroom.  Unbeknownst to her parents, Jojo is friends with Kevin, the football player, who proclaims his innocence.  Jojo believes him, but nobody else does.  As Jojo regains her grasp on reality, she realizes that her best friend, Harper, who she was with that night, is nowhere to be found.  Laurie and Jojo undertake a covert mission to find Harper and find more than they bargained for when they uncover rampant police corruption within the department that Laurie works for and loves.  This debut novel has a lot going on as it touches on many timely issues, such as police brutality, race and sexual orientation.  It rockets along at breakneck speed and even if you occasionally think something is a little "out there", you will not put it down until it's done.
