Cormoran Strike's detective agency has enjoyed some well-publicized success making him a quasi-celebrity. This leads to a woman approaching him out of the blue, while he's visiting family in Cornwall, to ask him about finding out what happened to her mother who disappeared - forty years ago. Strike and his partner, Robin, agree to look into the case, knowing the odds are against them after so much time has passed. While they juggle other cases and upheavals in their personal lives, Strike and Robin delve into the past to try to solve the mystery of a woman's unexplained disappearance. I love, love, love this series! The lead characters are so unique and they feel like someone you want to know. Strike comes across as being so gruff, but deep down he's a softie. Outwardly Robin is meek and mild mannered, but she has a surprising inner strength. There's suspense and humor and the dialogue is so real. I get so wrapped up in it, I start saying "Bloody" this or "Sod" that. This one was over 900 pages and I wish it could have been longer. I never read the Harry Potter series, but I can understand the popularity now that I know how she writes. (Robert Galbraith is actually J.K. Rowling for those of you who didn't know.)
