Ellery is the only survivor of a serial killer's rampage fourteen years ago.  Now she's a cop.  And people are suspiciously coming up missing - near her birthday.  There's been three so far and the date is fast approaching again.  Her superiors don't share her concern.  But they don't know everything Ellery knows.  They don't even know everything about Ellery.  When she asks for help from the FBI agent who saved her all those years ago, she realizes she's stirring up the past for both of them, but he's the only person who might believe her.  This book was a First Crime Novel Award Winner and it was an enjoyable read, but I felt the dialogue seemed forced in places, there were some highly implausible situations and it wasn't hard to ferret out the bad guy.  That said, it was still good enough that I'll read her next one when it comes out.
