Catherine Wells returns from deep space after being presumed dead for nearly a decade. Her crew isn't with her and Catherine has no memory of what happened to them. The young daughter she left behind is almost grown and her husband is involved with a woman who was once a good friend. After years of being alone, all she wanted to do was come home, but being home is proving to be more of a challenge than she anticipated. Catherine begins to have blackouts or "losing time" and occasional episodes where she imagines herself committing acts of extreme violence. As NASA prepares to send a second crew through the same wormhole Catherine experienced, she begins to fear for their future as well as her own. I don't read a lot of science fiction but this struck me as being pretty light in that department anyway. I felt it came across as more of a romance, sort of a "Harlequin Sci-Fi". Not that there's anything wrong with that. It just wasn't a story with lots of substance.
