INTO THE WATER

Paula Hawkins' book "The Girl on the Train" was an international bestseller so there was some understandable hype about her second book coming out.  I was....underwhelmed.  It was somewhat hard to get into and there are so many character storylines, I had to keep looking back to remind myself who everyone was, even when I was pretty deep into the book.  And I didn't like most of the characters.  There were some plot twists, but nothing unexpected.  In fact, a couple times I thought she was leading up to something more interesting and it just kind of fizzled out.  The events take place in a small town whose focal point is the river it's built on.  They used to "swim" witches there and in more modern times, several woman have met their fate, one way or another, in these same waters.  The investigation into one of these deaths serves as the basis for the story.  While far from being a devout Hawkins fan, I won't give up on her just yet.
