In case you haven't heard our Wakeman location recently got a makeover! After being closed to the public for a few weeks we opened back up on September 25th, 2017 and comments have been nothing but positive.
Why renovate? The last renovation was in 1997, and it was time for a change. Goals of this change were to freshen up the interior of the library and make better use of the floor space. Library usage has changed drastically in the past 20 years. More people use the library as a place to meet, study, use technology, play, and, yes, READ in addition to checking out materials! Libraries aren’t just places to store books. They are community centers, tutoring spaces, performance venues, technology hubs, and learning labs. More tables and chairs were added as well as a play area for the kids. A computer area with a charging station was created. The children’s area now features interactive sensory panels with learning activities and a play area with a kid sized farmer’s market. A teen area was created with a place for teens to sit and play board games. The circulation desk was moved and positioned to greet patrons as they walk in the door. A genealogy/local history room was also created to house the local history collection and to serve as an extra meeting room. New lighting gives the library a brighter look that refreshes the library. That’s not all. There is more display space so you won’t miss that exciting title you need to check out.
Come and check out what’s new at our Wakeman location; everything! Huron County Community Library continues to grow and change, just like our patrons.
Join us on Dec 2 for a special Grand Opening event during Christmas in the Village. Stop by the library for refreshments, tours, and even a magic show! It'll be fun for the whole family!
