     Celebrate National Library Week, April 7-13 with “Food For Fees” at all of our Huron County Community Library locations!  For every non-perishable item that you donate for our local food pantries, we will take $1 off your fees.  There is a $100 limit and lost or damaged items are not included.

     “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” is a program designed to be a fun a free way to start the children in your life down the important path of success.  Reading to children helps them build vocabulary and helps them to bond with their caregivers.  Register your child for this program by simply visiting any of our Huron County Community Library locations and asking our friendly staff for your program materials.  We are here to help you and your child on a lifelong journey of literacy and learning!

     “Read to Me Storytime” is held at our Willard location on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.  This Early Literacy Program features music, stories, crafts, and more.  The theme for April 3&4 is “Welcome to the Jungle”; on April 10&11, “It’s National Library Week”; on April 17&18, “Easter Tales & Wagging Tails”, and April 24&25, “April Showers bring May Flowers”.  There will be NO “Read to Me Storytime” in May as we prepare to SOAR into summer with “A Universe of Stories” Summer Reading.

     Plenty of activities are planned for our Kids during the month of April.  Youth ages 2-12can take part in our Easter Coloring Contest.  For more information on the contest stop by the Youth Department starting April 8.  Age groups will be split by 2-4; 5-8; and 9-12;

     Celebrate National Library Week by helping us create a Community Collage Bulletin Board in our Youth Services Department.  Stop in anytime between April 9-13 and add to the collage.

     Friday, April 12 is “Drop Everything and Read Day” at the library.  Remember to stop by between 10 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. and we will drop everything and read with your child.

     Join us anytime between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Mon. April15 for games and activity sheets and also on Fri. April 19 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to create a free Easter Craft. 

     Sign-up is required for “Lunch and a Movie” on Thurs., April 18, at 11 a.m.  Enjoy a free showing of a brand new release.  Watch the magical Nanny return to help the Banks siblings and Michael’s children through a difficult time in their lives.

     “Read Now. Read Forever” will kick off on April 29.  Come celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Children’s Book Week.  We will be celebrating April 29 thru May 5 with readings each day.

     Teen, don’t miss out on all the activities and events planned especially for you.  The Library has a special Teen Room and Teen Time is held there on Mondays at 4 p.m.

     We know life can be stressful Teens. Make a do-it-yourself stress ball on April 1.  Then hang out with us on April 8 and enjoy a free screening.  This movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where cities ride on wheels and consume each other to survive.  Two people will meet in London to try and stop a conspiracy.  Board game night is planned for April 15 and a special Wii Game Tourney will take place on April 22.  Join us for Drop-in Coloring on April 29.  Relax and color with a friend.

     Tuesday, April 2 we will be partnering with the Willard Community Connectors for Money Smart Week.  Come take part in an afternoon of games, food, and prizes.  Learn how to manage money and spend some time with friends as we play the Game of Life.

     Adult Workshops for April at our Willard location include creating a bird’s nest charm from wire on Monday, April 1 at 6 p.m. in the Annex and making a unique polymer clay pendant on Thursday, April 25 at 9 a.m. at the Willard Enrichment Center.

     Sign-up is required for a special workshop on “The Art of Paper Folding” on Thurs. April 4 at 6 p.m. in the Annex.  Create Simple, beautiful objects by folding paper with Monica Salisburg of the Ohio Paper Folders.  This workshop is limited to 20 people.

     Did you know you can check your blood pressure with your smart phone?  Come Check out what’s available in the latest technology for your health.  Through the Northeast Ohio Regional Library System we will have an Ehealth kit available to test out new, fun technology.  Come on Thurs. April 11 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room and hear your heart beat, check your blood pressure, and more.

     Join us on Mon. Apr. 15 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room to kick off the final season of “Game of Thrones” with “Game of Thrones Trivia & Celebration”.  Choose a side and win prizes for your house!  Snacks will be provided. 

     It’s doggie day at the library!  Looking for a new dog? Learn how to choose the best dog for your family and make a bandana for your pet.  Join us for “The Pick of the Litter: Choosing your Next Dog” on Thurs. Apr. 18 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room.  This fun class will include a free craft and a special doggie guest!  Bring your pup questions and let us help you add to your pack.

     Local Master Gardeners will be at our Willard location on Mon. April 22 at 6 p.m. in the Annex.  They will be here to answer you gardening questions.  For more information on what topics will be covered, call or stop by the library.

     Family History-Personal Scrapbooking is planned for Thurs. April 25 at 10 a.m. & 6 p.m. in the Annex.  Fran Evans will be here to help you learn how to re-create your own memories with words and pictures.

     Local Willard City School Senior, Justin Beebe, will share “Willard Early History” with us on Tues. April 30 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room.  Join him for a look back at Chicago Junction and the early days of Willard.  This great event was Justin’s Senior Project.
