WILLARD MEMORIAL LIBRARY NEWS

Spend your hot, summer days at the Huron County Community Library and take advantage
of the “cool” atmosphere and fun events. Come to our Willard Memorial Library location and
take part in the free health and exercise series the library is hosting in conjunction with Mercy
Health.
Join us at the Willard Enrichment Center on July 9, at 6 p.m. for a lesson in Tai Chi. Tai Chi
is an internal martial art, a form of active meditation that cultivates the life force, the chi.
Although slow and smooth, Tai Chi provides a good workout, restores vitality and challenges the
mind, yet is easily adjusted to accommodate different fitness levels and physical limitations,
making it therapeutic for injury recovery. Come do Tai Chi with Gary, a Certified Personal
Trainer and well-respected Yoga instructor.
Nutrition for Healthy Living is the second in the Mercy Health Mind, Body, and Sole Series.
Find out how to eat for healthy living by learning about the relationship between diet and well-
being from a Mercy Health expert. This presentation will be held on Monday, July 16 at 6 p.m. in
the library’s Community Room.
Learn how stress affects our mind, body, and soul and ways to control it from a Mercy Health
Expert. Stress Management is third in the Mind, Body and Sole series and will be held in the
Library Community Room on Monday, July 23 at 6 p.m.
Refresh and energize your mind and body with fruit infused water and no-bake energy bites.
On Monday, July 30 at 6 p.m. come to the Willard Memorial Library Community Room to get
free recipes and make samples to taste and take home!
“ Faery Garden Demonstration with Mulberry Creek Herb Farm” is scheduled for July 12 at 6
p.m. in the Annex. Mark from Mulberry Creek will be showing how to create that special faery
garden and how to maintain it. SIGN-UP IS REQUIRED! There will be a “free” faery garden
take home kit while supplies last.
Our monthly Pinterest inspired craft workshop will be held on Thurs. July 26 at 6 p.m. in the
Annex. Join us that evening and create “Garden Stepping Stones”.
“World Drumming” is a special event planned for Thursday, July16 at 6 p.m. at the Willard
Enrichment Center. Be part of the music and fun with local music teacher, Mark Heydinger.
Participants will play drum rhythms to accompany folk and gospel music. There will also be
other hand held instruments to try for interesting musical sound effects.
Friday Films@ Willard are held on the first and third Friday of the month from noon thru 2
p.m. On July 6 watch as an actress and a jazz musician pursue their Hollywood dreams and find
each other in a vibrant celebration of hope, dreams and love. Then on July 20, come enjoy a
movie based on a book by Madeleine L’Engle. After the disappearance of her scientist father,
three peculiar beings send Meg, her brother, and her friend through time and space to find him.
“Libraries Rock” for our Teens in July! Teen Time is held on Mondays at 4 p.m. On July 2 is
“DIY Pop Rocks”. Love pop rock candy? Drop by and make yourself some fun and easy pop
rocks. (while supplies last) A “Melted Crayon Activity” is planned for July 9. Come in and

make our own creation with melted crayons on canvas. Limited to 10 Teens. Sign-up is
required. Make an easy, fun Wind Chime out of seashells on July 16. This craft is limited to 10
and Sign-up is required. Stop by our Teen Room on July 23 and create DIY Slime while supplies
last.
Teens celebrate the end of Summer Reading with Miss Jo in the Teen Room on Saturday, July
14 at 10:30 a.m. Come sit and chat with Teens! Be here for the drawing of prizes.
On Monday, July 30 at 4 p.m. Teens join us for a free movie showing. Watch as, Jake
Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, reunites with Mako Mori to lead a new generation of Jaeger
pilots, including rival Lambert and 15-year-old hacker Amara, against a new Kaiju threat.
Our Youth Department will be holding a “Cookie Challenge” on Tuesday, July 3 at 1 p.m.
Can you tell the difference in name brand of off brand cookies? Which cookie will be the STAR
favorite cookie? Sign-up is required.
Kid’s Day @ the Park will be happening on Thursday, July 5 starting at 4:30 p.m. Join us for
a full filled evening starting at 4:30 p.m. Sillie Tillie! Free Petting Zoo! Costumed Characters!
Festival Fun for all ages!!
Sign-up is required on Friday, July 6 at 1 p.m. for our Independent Readers to take part in an
Interactive Movie. Stop by the Youth Services Department for more information.
Rock On Kids!! Join us for a party on Monday July 9 from 1-2:30 pm. Make a Skip-It!
Dance! Sing! Snack!
Spend an afternoon with us kids on Thursday, July 12 at 12:30 and enjoy a movie and snack.

On July 13 1:30 p.m. celebrate the end of “Rocking” Summer Reading with our Zoo to You at
the Trinity Lutheran Church! All ages are invited to come and meet some amazing animals and
have some hands on fun!
The winning shoe for the “The Shoe That Rocks You” Contest will be chosen on July 2 and on
Wednesday, July 11 at 1 p.m. come hear our “Bucket Drumming JAM”!
Monday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m. and Tuesday, July 5 at 6:30 Read to Me Storytime will
be “I’ve Got the Storytime Blues” and then on Wednesday, July11 at 10:30 a.m. and Thursday,
July12 Storytime will be “All That Jazz”.
Coming soon!!! Mind, Body, & Sole 5K and Fun Run!!! Saturday, August 4 at 8 a.m. meet
at the Library Annex for our Annual 5K Run and for a FREE Fun Run for Kids right after the big
race. We’ll have prizes and goodie bags just for kids!
