WILLARD MEMORIAL LIBRARY NEWS

 

 

 

 

 

June is the start of a fun-filled summer at the Huron County Community Library! Pick up a program of events and activities at any of our four library locations so you don’t miss out on all the exciting things we have planned.

 

Be sure to register for Summer Reading on Monday, June 4. The theme this year is “Libraries Rock”. All ages can take part in this program and can sign-up any time through July 13. Read and get tickets to enter to win a various prizes.

 

“Mind, Body, & Sole” is another program being offered at the library this summer. Read a little each day and do a physical activity and get incentive prizes for each milestone. Complete your log or take part in the community 5K on Aug. 4 and get the chance to win a Grand Prize!

 

Teens at our Willard Memorial Library location will find lots of activities to keep them busy during the summer. Kick off Summer Reading with a fun music scavenger hunt on Monday, June 4 at 4 p.m. On Wed. June 6 from 4-6 p.m., come in and make some yummy Gummy Bears with Miss Jo. On Thurs. June 7 at 4 p.m. sing your heart out with fun karaoke. Join the scratch art fandom on Mon. June 11 at 4 p.m. and create different designs to decorate your room. Drop in between 4 & 6 p.m. on Wed. June 13 to make a Bath Bomb. Supplies are limited. Try to meet the “Try Not to Sing Challenge” on Mon. June 18 at 4 p.m. See if you can be the Winner by resisting the urge to sing along to popular songs. “Just Dance Night” will be held on Thurs. June 21 at 4 p.m. Show off your dancing skills by playing “Just Dance” on the Wii. Finally, Make a Mosaic Tile picture frame on Mon. June 25 at 4 p.m. Sign-up is required for this activity.

 

Teens who attend programs can earn tickets toward Summer Reading Prizes.

 

Join us on Tues, June 12 at 6 p.m. at the Roy Doster Plaza for “The Music Lady: Beverly Meyer”. Beverly will be here to show you how “Libraries Rock”. We will play instruments and jam together. Feel free to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. All ages are welcome to this interactive event.

 

Gather your friends, create a team, or just come in and join along to test your knowledge of TV show theme songs. “Rock the Library with Music Trivia” in our Community Room on Thurs. June 14 from 6-7:30 p.m.

 

“Radio Silence with Joel Capell” is scheduled for Wed. June 20 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room. Local author, Joel Capell will discuss his book “Radio Silence” which began as a collection of memoir letters capturing his years spent overseas in support of the War on Terror and the years of struggle and the war within his head afterwards. His book will be available for sale.

 

“Thru-Hiking the Buckeye Trail: Things that will Change the Way You See Ohio” is a book written by author, Andy “Captain Blue” Niekamp. Captain Blue’s stories about the people and places, past and present are sure change the way “you” see Ohio. Books will be available for purchase following his presentation. This presentation will be held in our

 

Community Room.

 

Rock the Library with Local Musician Robert Cox on Thurs. June 28 at 6 p.m. in our Community Room. Robert will be playing some of his music and talking about his experience, songwriting, and more. Items will be available for purchase after his talk.

 

Join us at our Willard location for a monthly Pinterest inspired craft workshops. Create “Libraries Rock” Vinyl Record Bowls on Thurs. June 7 at 6 p.m. in the library annex or on Thurs. June 8 at 9 a.m. at the Willard Enrichment. Then on Mon. June 18 at 6 p.m. come try your hand at water colors using sheet music.

 

Take in Friday Films@ Willard on Friday, June 15 from 12-2 p.m. in the Community Room. Celebrate the birth of show business, and watch as a visionary rose from nothing to create a spectacle that becomes a worldwide sensation.

 

Move your feet…get the beat…grab a drum(bucket) and get ready for some fun. Sign-up is required for kids ages 6-12 to take part in bucket drumming on Weds. June 6,13,20,27, and July 10,11 at 1p.m. This sign-up is for all 6 weeks and is limited to 24 kids. On July 11 those taking part will perform a Bucket Drumming Jam.

 

On June 4 thru 9, help Pete the Cat find his magical sunglasses each day and return the sunglasses to the Youth Services Desk for a treat.

 

Come to the Trinity Lutheran Church on Tues. June 5 at 5:30 p.m. for “Drummunity”!! Drummunity is interactive fun for all ages. Get your hands on an instrument and add your sound and spirit to he community groove. Join us in welcoming Lori Fithian of “Drummunity” to kick off “Libraries Rock”.

 

Stop by on Thurs. June 7 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. and bring a round rock. Create an old-fashioned Pet Rock with us!

 

Let’s rock the library, kids, with music from trash. Bring something you think might make music. We will watch STOMP in action for some ideas to “Punk the Junk”.

 

Wednesday, June 13 at 3:30 p.m. enjoy “Dulcimer Day with Kristen Hall”. Third grade and up can come and learn to play the Dulcimer. Sign-up is required.

 

Come join us for lunch on Fri. June 15 from 11:30-12:30 p.m. Sign-up is requested.

 

All ages are invited to take part in the “Songs Rock” Contest. Drop in and write down your answers and turn in your sheet at the Youth Services Desk for a prize.

 

Set a glimpse of West Africa with Sogbety Diomande a native of the Ivory Coast. Enjoy drumming, dance, colorful costumes, musical instruments, rhythms and songs with an interactive performance that is sure to engage and delight all who attend. All ages welcome on Tues. June 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Following at 5:30 p.m. sign-up and learn how to play African Drums with Sogbety Diomande. This special workshop is limited to 20 family members. Sign-up is required to take part.

 

Have fun with us on Wed. June 20 at 4:30 p.m. as we play the cup song, with cups, spoons, belts, etc. Then meet us in the Annex on Thurs. June 21 at 1:30 p.m. for some hands on fun with Bill Fisher and the animals of Lowe-Volk.

 

On Fri. June 22 at 1 p.m. come to the library and learn about the sounds of science with the Armstrong Air & Space Museum.

 

Sign-up is required for the Emerging Technology Trunk Show on Tues. June 26 at 1 p.m. Independent readers can come a play with the newest technology! Program is limited to 24.

 

Caravan Chefs square off in a culinary competition that features audience members as sous chefs and judges. Don’t miss this event on Wed. June 27 at 4:30 p.m. And finally on Fri. June 29 at 1 p.m. join us to make different kinds of slime. Take your favorite home!

 

Read to me Storytime is planned for Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Themes for Storytime include: June 6&7, “Let’s Make Some Noise”, June 13&14, “I Love Rock-n-Roll”, June 20&21, “Big Band Time”, June 27&28, “We’re Going Country”.

 

Just as a reminder: there is so much happening at the library you need to stop in and pick up a program so you do not miss a single event. Also listed in the program will be special fitness events planned in partnership with the Willard City Park and held in the park, special workshops for health offered in conjunction with Mercy Health and held at the library and a community 5K to be held on Aug. 4.
