WILLARD MEMORIAL LIBRARY NEWS

 

So much excitement at the Huron County Community Library!!! Mark your calendars so you don’t miss out on everything happening at our Willard Memorial Library location this month of March.

March 5-10th is Teen Tech Week! All week long we have the Norweld Polaroid Professional Photo Studio! Come shoot a Summer Reading, ‘Libraries Rock” live action trailer with us. We will be meeting at 4:30 p.m. each day this week. March 5&6 will be “Movie Trailer Fun”, March 7 “Stop and Go Animation”, and March 8 “Augmented Reality Photos”.

Watch as Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok, the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization, at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. This movie will be shown on March 12 at 4:30 p.m. Snacks will be provided.

Create “4 Leaf Clover” String-art on March 19 and also make DIY “Bath Bombs” on March 26. Both crafts will be held at 4:30 p.m. There is a limit of 15 people for these activities so sign-up is required.

Enjoy your creative side with Adult Coloring in the Community Room on March 5 from 5-7 p.m. and make a Rolled Paper Picture Frame on March 19 at 6 p.m. in the Annex, and finally decorate plastic eggs with us in the Community Room on March 29

at 6 p.m. Be sure to sign-up at the front desk.

Join us for a special program in our community room on Thursday, March 15 at 6 p.m. “The Wearing of the Green: The Origins of St. Patrick’s Day” will be presented via videoconference by the Ohio History Connection. Celebrated by the Irish as a religious holiday for over a thousand years the custom of St. Patrick’s Day has spread throughout the world. Participants in this presentation will learn about the origins of St. Patrick’s Day, who St. Patrick was, why it’s celebrated as a holiday, and how it’s celebrated though out the world.

Mary Milne from the Ohio Genealogical Society will be here to discuss Urban Legends from across the state and throughout history. She will go over genealogical research techniques to illuminate the true story behind urban legends in Ohio. Her presentation will be held on Thursday, March 22 at 6 p.m. in the Willard Community Room.

Friday Films @ Willard are held the first and third Friday of the month at noon in our community room. March 2, celebrate Women’s History Month with a free screening of an epic film based on the untold true story of 3 African-American mathematicians and NASA. On March 16, come watch the 20th Century Fox remake of a classic that follows detective Hercule Poirot as he solves a murder on the train he is travelling on.

Our Youth Services Department at our Willard location has lots planned to keep our kids entertained. “Read to Me Story Time” is held on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. The theme for Mar. 7&8 is “Birds of a Feather”, on Mar. 14&15 “We Little Irish Tales”, and on Mar. 21&22 “Hop Like a Bunny”.

Our “Spring Coloring Contest” will kick off on March 5. The categories are broken down by ages 2-6 and 7-12. Entries are due back to the Youth Services Department by 5 p.m. on March 23. The winners will be announced on March 26.

Peter Rabbit Week will be celebrated March 2-26. Stop in and read a Beatrix Potter book with us anytime. All Day on Mon. Mar. 26, pick up a Peter Rabbit Crossword puzzle. Complete the puzzle any day this week and get a special treat. On Thurs. Mar. 29 from 5:30-6:30, hop in for stories, a craft, and a special visitor! This special visitor includes a furry, bunny visitor. Come in anytime on Fri. Mar. 30 to try and unscramble the words based on the Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit series of books.

On Sat. March 17 from 9-10 a.m. we will be at the Willard Enrichment Center’s St. Patty’s Day Pancake Breakfast with a free fun craft.

Stop in for our Drop-In Crafts on Tuesday, March 27 from 4-6 p.m. to make a bunny bag and fill it with treats and Wednesday, March 28 from 4:30-6 p.m. to make a Peter Rabbit Garden Scene.

Tuesday Movies @ the Library are held on the big screen in our Community Room. Join us March 6 at 5:30 p.m. for the heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters fifth grade and attends a mainstream elementary school for the first time. Then on March 20 at 5:30 p.m. watch as a bull with a big heart, is mistaken for a dangerous beast, he is captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure.
