WILLARD MEMORIAL LIBRARY NEWS

According to one weatherman, the arrival of Spring in our area is 2 weeks late. If you are getting restless waiting for it to get here come to the Willard Memorial location of the Huron County Community Library and choose from a variety of activities and events to keep you entertained.

Children’s Book Week continues in our Youth Services Department thru May 6, in celebration check out the FREE graphic novel, “One World, Many Stories”. This novel is available for download here at http://bit.ly/2BjzhFn or stop in and read our copy! Join us on Tuesday, May 1 from 5-6 p.m. for building activities with Snapology! If you love Star Wars then this is the program for you. Come participate in Star Wars themed activities. Build ships, create themes from the movies, light sabers, you name it. Follow this activity with BB-8 Day on Wednesday, May 2 at 4 p.m. Drop in for crafts and coloring! Stop by and play some Star Wars games with us on Thursday, May 3 at 4 p.m. We will be featuring a Roll & Color Game and a Lines & Dots game. Finally on Friday, May 4 all day long, coloring & activity sheets will be available and also while you are here try your hand at “feeding” Jabba the Hutt!

The Annual Touch-A-Truck event is here again!!! On Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. join us at the Willard City Park for even more trucks and hands on fun than last year! All ages are welcome! Besides Trucks there will be a bike rodeo, crafts, and our Plant Swap. That day is also Free Comic Book Day! Get a free comic book from Miss Charlotte while supplies last!

Don’t forget Mother’s Day! Kids come to the library on May 10 from 4-6 p.m. and make a special craft for Mom. Tuesday, May 29 at 5:30 p.m. will be Movies @ the Library. Watch as a very special Bear, who is now happily settled with the Brown family and is a popular member of the local community, picks up a series of odd jobs to buy the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy's 100th birthday. Unfortunately for him this gift is stolen.

Our Wednesday and Thursday “Read to Me Storytime” sessions will return for Summer Reading in June. Join us then for a great summer of reading, activities, and more!

Teens be sure to allow space in your busy schedules to join us in our special Teen Room for Teen Time. Teen Time is held on Mondays at 4:30 pm. On May 7, make a Do-It-Yourself Sugar Scrub; on May 14 create a Do-It-Yourself Basket by weaving with magazines.

There are plenty of activities planned for adults in May, too. Join us for a monthly Pinterest inspired craft workshop on Thursday, May 3 at 9 a.m. at the Willard Enrichment Center-Senior Center. Be creative in making painted garden rocks. If Mondays work out better come to the library on May14 at 6 p.m. and have a second opportunity to create your painted rocks.

Touch-A-Truck on Saturday, May 5 at 10 a.m. also has various things for adults to do. Make a bird seed suet cake for your feathered friends or take part in the Plant swap. Bring your labeled plants to the park between 8 & 9 a.m. and then take a plant that someone else has shared. Expert gardeners will be on hand to answer questions.

A special program on “Herb Gardening” is scheduled in the Annex on Thursday, May 10 at 6 p.m. Learn how to grow and use a special herb with a gardening expert. Each participant will receive an herb and make a plant marker.

“Remembering the 1973 Willard Tornado” on Thursday, May 10 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room. Where were you on May 10, 1973? Come spend an evening with us as we look back on the 45th Anniversary of the day that many Willard residents will never forget. Share your memories with us and journey through our collection of images presented to the library by Frank Chapman and Family.

“Set Sail with the Titanic Tea Party” on Monday, May 21 at 6 p.m. at the Willard Enrichment Center! Enjoy light refreshments as you experience the story of that fateful voyage with a special guest from the National Museum of the Great Lakes. We’ll have teas to try so come for fun, community fellowship, and more!

Marvel Trivia Night will be held in the Community Room on Thursday May 31 from 6-7:30 p.m. How well do you know the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Call your superhero friends and form a team to compete in our Marvel Trivia Night. Test your knowledge and compete for prizes.

“Friday Films @ Willard” are held in the Community Room the first and third Fridays of the month from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. On May 4, “May the Fourth be with you”! Rey learns the ways of the Force from Luke Skywalker and develops a telepathic bond with Kylo Ren, who is struggling to master the Dark Side. Then on May 18, join us for an adventure into the Marvel Universe. Foreign forces are plotting to use Wakand’s wealth and knowledge for their own ends.

Summer Reading 2018 is right around the corner. All ages are invited to join us this summer as “Libraries Rock!” Our Mind, Body, & Sole program will also kick off on June 4 with the Summer Reading. Plan now not to miss a single thing happening at the library!!
