With the month of May comes warmer weather and the urge to be outside and on the go. The Huron County Community Library urges everyone to remember to also take time to relax and READ. Each of our library’s discussion groups give various reading choices and the opportunity to talk with others about the books you have read. On May 26 at 6 p.m. Cook up a Storm Cookbook Club will be talking about the book “One Bowl Baking” by Yvonne Ruperti, and also learn how to make Upside Down Sticky Pecan Muffins. At our Willard location on May 10 at 10 a.m., Monday Reads will be reading and discussing “A Woman is No Man” by Efaf Rum. On May 25 at 6 p.m. Awkward Book Club with Jo will share their thoughts on “The Guest List” by Lucey Foley. On May 21 at 3 p.m., Manga Talks with Jo and Mrs. Rogers will exchange their thoughts on “One Piece, vol. 28-30” by Eiichiro Oda.
The Inspirational Book Club at our North Fairfield location will be reading “The Prayer Box” by Lisa Wingate and the No Strings Attached book club at Greenwich has selected “The Friends We Keep” by Jane Green for May.
Get ready for “Mind, Body, and Sole” with a Storybook Trail at Dalton Park Preserve and at the Greenwich Rails to Trails (off Townsend St.). The May Storybook Trail is sponsored by Judy Earl in honor of her parents, Walter and Eunice Eisenbarth.
Many other activities will take place in May. Check each library location for kits that will be used for these activities.
On Monday, May 3 at 4 pm. Teens can learn to make a paper Succulent plant with Jo. On May 4 Miss Char has some “Take and Make” activities ready for you to pick up at our Willard location and at 6 p.m. Miss Jenny at Greenwich has a special K-Readiness story and Grab & Go Kit to share.
May 6 at 6 p.m. grab a kit and join Miss Char for a special spring craft just in time for Mother’s Day.
On May 7 & 28 at 4 p.m. join us for livestream play on Twitch! Follow the link on Facebook or stop by the Teen room at Willard for more information.
One Chip Challenge will take place on May 14 at 4 p.m. Find out which staff can survive the spiciest chips. Then Teens can learn how to make useful and pretty origami boxes on May 17 at 4 p.m. Pick your kit up at our Willard and Wakeman locations.
Join Judy on May 17 at 6 p.m. to learn how to make an easy upcycled planter with tuna cans and clothes pins. This fun project includes a surprise plant.
Miss Cathy will show you how to create a Marble Upcycle Glass Jar using nail polish on May 19 at 4 p.m. and on May 24, Miss Cathy will show you how to create a 3D sunflower.
Miss Char will be on a special Out and About at Lowe-Volk Park on May 27 at 6 p.m. She will be talking with Josh Dyer and Lisa Bogard and introducing you to our newest Summer Reading Friend.
Summer Reading is coming June 7 and ends July 30. All ages are invited to join us for a summer of fun with prizes, incentives, programs, and more. Outback Ray will be here, we will look at owls up close, and more. This year’s 5K is currently scheduled for the first Saturday in August and all ages can take part.
