     Fall has officially arrived and the activities available at all locations of the Huron County Community Library will put you in the spirit of this fun season.  

     Join Miss Cathy at our Wakeman location for in-person Storytime.  Her Fall Storytime will be held Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 at 10:30 a.m.  

     Stream “free” at the Library.  Explore science, technology, reading, engineering, art, or math in the Wakeman children’s department Oct. 18 and 25 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

     Beginner Line Dancing will be held at the Wakeman Masonic Hall across the street from the library on Thursday, Oct. 7 and 14 at 4 p.m.

     Join Miss Jenny for Storytime at our Greenwich location on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. or Friday mornings at 11 a.m.   On Friday, Oct. 1 the theme will be “Down on the Farm”; Oct. 8, “All About Autumn”; Oct. 15, “Five Little Pumpkins”; Oct. 22, “Fall Animals” and on Oct. 29,

“All About Apples”.  Wear your costume this last day and stop in for a special treat.  On Wednesday, Oct. 13 the theme is “Five Little Pumpkins”.  Come on this night and decorate pumpkins with us.  On Oct. 20 the theme is “Fall Animals” and Oct. 27 “Apples Galore”.  Wear a costume this night and get a special treat.

     Celebrate Fire Safety Week on Wed. Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. with “Touch-A-Truck”.  Join us at our Greenwich Library for a fun afternoon of up-close looks at a variety of different trucks and cars.

     Pick-up your “Take & Make” Craft Kit for the family at our Greenwich and North Fairfield locations: Oct. 4, celebrate our First Responders with a craft for Fire Safety Week; on Oct. 11, celebrate with a Cookie Monster craft “National M&M Day”; Oct. 18 make a “Fall Leaves Crown”, and on Oct. 25, make a “Yarn Wrapped Monster”.

     Come to our Greenwich location on Sat. Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. See us at the Greenwich Improvement Group’s Fall Fest.  Join us for stories and a craft.

     Storytime at the Gazebo will be held Tues. Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. at the North Fairfield Gazebo.  Miss Carolyn will have a special outdoor story time that will include a fun sign language lesson.  

     Miss Mitzi, at our Willard location has a Virtual Storytime every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. on Facebook or kids can take part in an in-person Storytime on the lawn at the Lutheran Church across from the Library.  Be sure to stop and pick up your weekly “Grab and Go Kit”.  The theme oon Oct 6 is “Fire Safety: Stop, Drop, and Roll”; on Oct.13 “The Very Busy Spider”; on Oct. 20 “Frost on the Pumpkin” and Oct. 27 “It’s Halloween Fun”.

     Our Adult Virtual Workshops/Events are available for all our library locations.  The “Grab and Go Kits” for these workshops can be picked up at our Willard, North Fairfield, Greenwich, and Wakeman libraries.  Join us Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. to learn how to create a rustic centerpiece with Judy.  Then on Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. make a “Dollar Tree Little Red Wagon”.  This workshop includes instructions to make a no-sew toilet paper roll, pumpkin.  

     As part of our Virtual Family Programs, Miss Jenny will be out and about on Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. visiting a pumpkin patch for a behind the scene look at growing and picking pumpkins.

     Storyteller, Bizzie Vunderink is back this month of October to share some spooky and creepy stories for all ages.  Saturday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. on Facebook, Bizzie will amuse and frighten us a little with “Spooky” stories for kids.  On Sunday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. Bizzie will entertain and terrify teens and adults with creepy stories.

     It’s time for another Storybook Quest.  This Creepy Quest will begin on Sat. Oct. 2 during the Fall Fest in downtown Willard.  It will end on Oct. 8.  Take the whole family for a chalk walk and finish the trail at the Willard library location where you can pick up a fun bag of goodies while supplies last.

     “Whooo?  A craft for you” will be live on Facebook Thurs. Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.  Join Miss Char to learn how to create an owl using paper tubes and cupcake liners.

     Kits will be available while supplies last on Oct. 25 in Willard for a “Halloween Story Spook-tacular”!  This will be 7 days of stories and surprises.  Join Miss Char for 7 days of costumes, stories, and treats.  Miss Char will have a different costume and story for each day leading up to

Halloween.  On Monday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. the theme is: “Creepy Carrots”, on Oct 26 at 7 p.m. it is “Boo”, on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. it is “Froggy”, on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. it is “Snowmen”, on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. it is “Trick or Treat”, on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. it is “Cat”, and on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. it is “Haunted Igloo Fun”.

     Teen Time on Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. will be held virtually on Facebook.  Join Jo to learn how to create your own wreath to decorate your locker or door.  Kits are available at Willard or Greenwich libraries.  

     On Wed. Oct 13 at 4 p.m. at the Willard Annex, make a DIY Emoji Paper Squishy!  Try out the new sensation that is “Squishys”.  Kits are available at Willard and Greenwich.

     Join Jo on Facebook live for the latest skin care fad.  Learn how to make your own sugar scrub.  Kits are available at Willard and Greenwich while supplies last.

     Tune in on Facebook Friday Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. to find out which staff member will win our Book Quote Challenge.

     “Monday Reads” book discussion will meet on Monday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. at Willard Memorial Library location to discuss “The Giver of Stars” by JoJo Moyes.

     “Awkward Book Club with Jo” will meet virtually Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. to share their thoughts on “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro. 

     “Manga Talks” with Jo and Mrs. Rogers will hold an interactive book talk on Facebook Fri. Oct. 15 at 4 p.m.  The current Manga pick is “One Piece”.

     “Cook Up a Storm Cookbook Club” will meet at the Willard Annex Oct. 27 at 6 p.m.  MASKS ARE REQUIRED.  The group will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Miss Jo.  Jo will demonstrate how to cook some traditional Hispanic foods.

     On the first Monday of every month at 6 p.m. our Wakeman location invites you to their “Cookbook Club”.  On Oct. 4 make something you love from your favorite go-to cookbook and bring the cookbook, too.

     The “No Strings Attached” book selection at our Greenwich location for October is “Home Before Dark” by Riley Sager.

     The “Inspirational Book Club” at North Fairfield has chosen “Wonder Creek” by Lynn Austin as there book choice for October.
