     June is finally here!!  School is now out and the Huron County Community Library summer reading program, “Adventure Begins at Your Library”, is set to start June 3.  Check to see what is taking place at all four of our library locations for lots of fun activities and events.  Be sure you sign-up to take part in the program and turn all your reading and activities into possible prizes.

  • At our Willard Memorial Library location our adult workshops and events will give you plenty of opportunities for crafts, fitness and education.

     
  • Join us for walking at the Willard City Park on Tuesdays during the month of June.  Walks will last about 30 minutes.  Weather permitting, meet us at the Depot on June 4, 11, 18, and 25 at 9 a.m.

     
  • Take an “Adventure Around the World in Crafts” at our Willard location by joining us for this summer series.  In each session you will learn about the origins of a craft and complete a project to take home.  The craft for Friday, June 14 is Origami, and for Friday, June 28 it is Macrame.  Come to the annex at 11 a.m.

     
  • Pinterest Monday will be on Monday, June 10 at 6 p.m. in the Willard Annex.  Learn to paint your very own Northern Lights painting.  We will walk you through the techniques to blend and create our very own work of art.  Sign-up is required.

     
  • Join us on Thursday, June 13 at 10 a.m. at the Enrichment Center in Willard.  This activity is for ages 18 and up.  We will be making a beach themed candle.  Stick around afterward for a lunch provided by the Enrichment center.

     
  •  Have you ever had trouble starting a campfire?  Come learn how to make your own fire starters for the camping season on Monday, June 17 at 6 p.m. in the Willard Community Room.  The Willard Fire Department will be joining us to talk about campfire safety.  Sign-up is required.

     
  • Learn how to make your own healthy snacks with Melissa in the Willard Annex on June 20 at 6 p.m.  These easy no bake recipes are perfect for the summer or making with kids.  Sign-up is required.

     
  • Have you ever wondered what it would be like to ride the runners behind a team of dogs or what it would take to care for a team of Alaskan huskies?    Come to the Willard Annex on Monday June 24 at 6 p.m. to meet “Noggin” the sled dog and also musher, Karen Land.  Hear all about their adventures in Alaska and running the Iditarod.

     
  • Willard’s “Monday Reads” will get together on June 10 at 10 a.m. in the Community Room to discuss “Everyone That Can Forgive Me is Dead” by Jenny Hollander.

     
  • “Turn the Page Book Discussion”, Willard’s evening book discussion will meet on Thursday, June 27 at 6 p.m. in the Willard community room.  They will be sharing their thoughts on “The Maid” by Nita Prose.

     
  •  All adults are invited to the Willard annex on Thursday, June 6 at 6 p.m. for the Willard “Cook Up a Storm Cookbook Club”.  We will be sharing dishes from around the world.  Cookbooks from this group are from different countries.

     
  •  Dulcimer 101 Workshops will be held in the Willard community room on Wednesday, June 5 and Wednesday, June 26 at 11 a.m.  Class size is limited so sign-up is required.

     
  •  If you love to write or want to start writing, join Willard’s “Writers’ Group”.  They will meet in the Willard community room on Thursday, June 27 at 5 p.m.  For more information or to sign-up contact Josh at jfigley@huroncolib.org.

     
  • Bring your computer questions to the Willard Library on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.  Just drop in at the Willard Computer Lab and talk with Jarrad. 

     
  • Mrs. Rogers has lots planned for Teens and Pre-Teens in June.  Her Teen programming is intended for grades 6 and up (ages:11-18).  On Thursday June 6 at 4 p.m. join Mrs. Rogers for a walking adventure.  Enjoy historical visits around town.  On Thursday, June 13 at 4 p.m. design a walking stick; on Friday June 14 create a seed bomb and on Thursday, June 20 at 4 p.m. come and build a terrarium.  Get planting on Friday, June 21at 3 p.m. Come and plant some of the plants for your terrarium.  On Thursday, June 27 at 4 p.m. make a garden wand stake and on Friday, June 28 at 3 p.m. explore Trivia with prizes. 

     
  • “Read to Me Storytime” is back on at our Willard location.  Choose between Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. or Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m.  The theme for June 5 and 6 is “And We’re Off-Travel Adventures”; on June 12 and 13 is “Go Outside-Adventures in Nature”; on June 20 and 26  is “Dream it Up – Adventures in Imagination”, and June 27 is “Solve This – Scavenger Hunt Adventures”.

     
  •  Smokey Bear turns 80 this year.  Join Smokey by completing a reading challenge to learn about wildfires and the environment in honor of his Birthday.  Read books, earn badges, and receive prizes.

     
  • Then on Thursday, June 13, at 1 p.m. all ages are invited to a “Smokey Bear Birthday Bash”.  Join us in the community room and Youth Programming room.

     
  • Kids ages 6-11 are invited to join us and learn about shadow artists.  Come to the Willard location community room on Tuesday, June 4 at 1 p.m. for “The Magic of Shadow Art”.  We’ll be making our own shadow art project and have fun making shadows.

     
  • Meet us at the barn at the Willard City Park, kids, on Thursday, June 6 at 1 p.m.  We will be hiking and collecting items on our walk to make ephemeral art when we are done.  Adults are welcome to join us.

     
  • Sign-up is required because space is limited for “Indoor Camping” fun in the Willard Library community room.  Come enjoy all the fun of camping without the tent or mosquitos on Tuesday, June 11 at 1 p.m.

     
  • The Ohio School of Falconry will be at the Willard City Park with some of their raptor friends! 

     
  • Be sure to come on Friday, June 14 at 1 p.m. at the Show Mobile area.  Meet these amazing birds in person.  All ages are invited. 

     
  • Wear your swim wear and join us for slippery wet fun on Tuesday, June 18 at 2 p.m. We are having a “Foam Party” at the St. Francis Church lawn (25 W. Perry).  This is a free event.

     
  •  It’s all about “Whoo” on Thursday, June 20 at 1 p.m. at the Willard City Park by the Show Mobile.  This event is for ages 6-11 and sign-up is required.  The Ohio Bird Sanctuary will visit and we will learn about owls and dissect an owl pellet.  There will be a special visitor too…can you guess WHOO?

     
  •  On Thursday, June 27 at 2:30 p.m. Bugman Education will be sharing fun facts and BUGS with us.  Get up close and personal with a millipede, praying mantis, and more!

 

  •  Our North Fairfield location of the Huron County Community Library invites kids, ages 6-12 (and kids under 6 with a helper) to wear old clothes and come ready to get messy.  On Monday, June 3 from 2-2:30 p.m. come to paint birdhouses and make suet.  Sign-up is required.  On Monday, June 10 from 2-2:30 p.m. time for painting bodies and other things with bubbles and on Monday, June 17 from 2-2:30 take part in butterfly art.  Sign-up is required on June 24 from 2-2:30 p.m. to create cement leaves.

     
  • Kids, teens, and adults are all welcome to take part in “Cardio Drumming at the North Fairfield Library.  Space is limited so sign-up is required to join us on Tuesday, June 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 1-2 p.m.

     
  • “Mush” with Noggin, the sled dog and her human musher, Karen Land, on Thursday, June 6 at 5:30 p.m.  Come and hear about her adventures in Alaska running the Iditarod.

     
  • Adult Craft Day at the North Fairfield Library location is Friday, June 7 at 1 p.m.  Join us to make a beach theme candle.

     
  • North Fairfield’s “Sit and Stitch” group meets on Mondays at 10 a.m.  Adults stitchers and crafters are invited to bring their personal projects and chat with like-minded crafters.  This group will be meeting on June 3, 10, 17, and 24.

     
  • Be sure to visit the “Storybook Trail in June and July next to the North Fairfield Library.

    

  • Bluey is back at the Huron County Community Library.  This time the “Bluey Bash” will be at the Greenwich Library location on Thursday June 13 at 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Meet Bluey and take pictures with him.  We’ll also have “wackadoo” activities and fun.

     
  • Wear old clothes and prepare to get messy at our Greenwich Library.  Kids ages 6-12 and those under 6 with a helper are invited to take part in “Outdoor Art and Sensory Adventures”.  Outdoor Art will be held on Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m.  On June 5 make hammered leaf and flower prints; on June 12 take part in painting with bubbles, and on June 26, create some butterfly art.  The Sensory Adventures will be held on Fridays from noon to 4 p.m.  Join us at the Greenwich Library on June 7, 14, 21, and 28.

     
  • June “Storytime” at our Greenwich location will take kids on “Adventure Around Town”.  On Wednesday, June 12 at 1 p.m. meet at the Reservoir Park and on June 26 at the Painted Cowgirl. 

     
  • Come and get wet at the Greenwich Library location.  Enjoy some bubbly, sudsy fun at our Foam Party on Tuesday, June 18 at 11 a.m.  Then on Thursday, June 20 at 11 a.m. take part in our Water Adventures for some water science. Dress to get wet for both activities. 

     
  • Sign-up is required for Greenwich’s “Family Craft”.  Drop-in between 1 and 5 p.m. on June 24 and 25 for Beaded Crafts and Fireworks painting.

  • Ohio author, Kate Michaelson, will be visiting our Greenwich Library location on Monday, June 17 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.  She will be discussing her debut mystery book, “Hidden Rooms”.

     
  • Come and meet Mark Berman and his bugs June 27 at 11 a.m. at Greenwich and learn about the wonderful world of bugs and even get a chance to meet them up close and personal.

     
  • Be sure to visit Storybook Trail at the Reservoir Park in Greenwich during the months of June and July.

     
  • Stop by our table for some fun activities sponsored by the Huron County Community Library on Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greenwich Improvement Group Summer Fun Day.  This event is located behind the old school on New Street in the grassy area.

 

  • Join Cathy each Friday at our Wakeman location at 10:30 a.m. for Storytime.  Each week will feature fun stories, activities and more.  Kids we will look for you June 7, 14, 21, and 28.  A special musical Storytime is planned for June 21 with Jody Chaffee from the Firelands Symphony Orchestra. 

     
  • Sign-up is required and please only register for one, “A2 Magic Show” planned for Tuesday, June 4 at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.  Come enjoy a fun afternoon of magic.

     
  • Bring the whole family to the Wakeman Library on Monday, June 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. for the Wild Hooves Farm Petting Zoo.  Come meet, feed, brush, and pet the rescue animals with us.  There will be a llama, a horse, a goat, an alpaca, and other animals.  There will even be a limited number of pony rides.

  • With step by step instructions, you can create your own Northern Lights Painting at the Wakeman Library.  We will walk through the techniques to blend and create your own work of art on Monday, June 24 at 5:30 p.m.  Sign-up is required. 

     
  •  Kids! Join us each Thursday at our Wakeman Library location for a free craft.  Dates for June include June 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 10:30 a.m.

     
  • Come in your swim wear and join us on the Wakeman Library lawn Tuesday, June 18 at 5p.m.  Have some slippery, wet fun at our “Foam Party”!
