THE GOLDEN SPOON

Six home bakers arrive in Vermont to be this year's contestants on "Bake Week", the long running TV baking competition started by its' hostess, "America's Grandmother", Betsy Martin.  The producers have decided Betsy should have a co-host this year, a decision she isn't very happy about.  From day one, things start going wrong on set.  Are the contestants not paying enough attention or are they being sabotaged to make for better TV?  Secrets abound among cast and crew and one dark and stormy night, someone ends up dead.  Maxwell's debut takes advantage of America's love affair with cooking shows.  It's pretty much a gentle read, relatively tame and somewhat predictable, not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's what you like.  It should appeal to people who like baking and cozy mysteries.
