In the spirit of the Hatfields and the McCoys, here are two more Southern families with a long-standing blood feud that is about to come to a head. Jeremiah Fitzjurls has been raising his granddaughter since her mother deserted her and her father went to prison for shooting a member of the meth dealing Ledford clan. Now a teenager, Joanna becomes the focus of the Ledford's plan for revenge. Many secrets will be revealed as Jeremiah sets out to save Jo, accompanied by the boyfriend he didn't know she had and doesn't know if he should trust. Joanna stands out as a beacon of light in this otherwise dark, brooding novel. While very well written, the story has a rawness to it; some parts might even be considered disturbing to some. I found it to be quite a page turner regardless.
