Lana Rubicon, a ruthless real estate developer from L.A., is suffering from health issues that have forced her to temporarily move in with her daughter and granddaughter, Beth and Jack, while she recovers. Teenaged Jack works as a kayak tour guide within biking distance of their bungalow. What should have been a quiet Sunday morning trip is ruined when Jack finds a dead body in the slough. When the police seem to be looking a little too hard at Jack, Lana decides it's time to do some investigating of her own. Simon did a great job with the characterization of the three Rubicon women and their relationship with each other. Sometimes the people we love the most are the hardest ones to get along with. I felt like the story just kind of plodded along as shady land deals were revealed. But the Rubicon family saved the day and the story.
